Plant Breeding
Our soybean breeding program does not utilize genetic modification or transgenic technologies. The breeding program has successfully developed exciting new lines for commercialization.
Hendrick Seeds employs Marker Assisted Selection techniques as an advanced tool to assess yield, agronomic and food traits potential and to rapidly refine its selection processes and accelerate the advancement of promising new lines.
Hendrick Seed has developed the physical capacity to perform extensive plant breeding and research trials. Our trials are conducted at our main research stations and in multiple locations in Ontario, Quebec, the Maritimes, and Europe. As interesting results from our breeding program are identified, Hendrick Seeds has the capacity to accelerate these discoveries. We utilize greenhouses and winter nurseries in South America. These facilities allow us to rapidly advance and multiply promising new lines over our winter season and return them to Canada before the next spring for field planting. This capacity helps accelerated commercialization of promising new lines.
Meeting Market Needs
Soy food manufacturers require specific types of food grade soybean with specific traits and features. Hendrick Seeds offers several distinct varieties of soy and natto beans to meet this requirement. Our special DH seed varieties are sold to growers of identity-preserved food-grade soybeans. Their production of Hendrick Seeds varieties is then handled through a closed-loop network of food-grade soybean processors and exporters who supply discerning clients around the world with premium, even customized, product. Hendrick Seeds offers varieties that are driven by specific needs of end-users. Demand for Hendrick Seeds DH varieties is established and nurtured prior to their release — growers and processors/conditioners of our lines have a ready market for their products
